Embodying Earth, Vietnam
In Vietnam, the Embodying Earth UWC short course brings young people together to explore climate responsibility through lived experience, reflection and connection with the natural world. Hosted in and around the Đồng Nai river basin, the course brings learners from across regions together to explore climate through place. In one exercise, participants walk a physical timeline of Earth’s history through the rainforest, where each step represents millions of years.
“Walking through the warm summer rain of southern Vietnam, we move through a swaying rainforest… Step by step, metre by metre, we embody Earth.
In the final quarter of a millimeter, just 250 years, we reach the Industrial Revolution… As we take the final step back into today, we ask ourselves: What does it mean to be a human being at this particular point in Earth’s story?”
By grounding learning in experience and reflection, Embodying Earth supports young people to develop a deeper sense of responsibility for the planet and their place within it.
